MULL 2017

Four of us went up to Mull again, what a fantastic week we had, wall to wall sunshine every day with the occasional cloud over the sun so we could cool off for 10mins.

There were lots of Ringed Plover around & plenty of Wheatears. Both were cracking on with nesting!

On Iona there were some shameful House sparrows:
Who did not care who was watching, is this Animal Porn?

Stonechats were abundant too!

Whinchats were present:

 Usual 1000's of Oystercatchers:

Just look at that heat haze!

We managed to get onto a few Whimbrel.

Of course there were Herons:

 Red Breasted Mergansers:

Hooded Crows - This one is calling for David!

 Don't forget the Otters:

With it's Crab lunch!
It is very interested in the shiny Bald head of the Gentleman trying to hide next to me!

Young one snuggling up to mum.

& waiting for some food to magically appear with mum.

Great Northern Divers were present again:

& we lucked out on the Boat & got a Red Throated:

When out on a boat you need to keep your Eyes peeled, not just for W.T.Eagles & Divers but checking out Gulls too. Why not - whilst waiting to get to Eagle Fishing Locations.

Herring Gulls of various ages were following us.

As were Kittiwakes - Which I hadn't noticed at first.

Good old Net Chompers were hanging around too:

That's not what we came out for ......

Eagles that's what you go to "Eagle Island" to see, everything else is Gravy!
This year we did see a few Golden eagles, most at a distance but we had one occasion when a Golden Eagle sneaked up really close, but not really long enough to get the camera gear out & capture it. But what cracking views through the Bins I had.
Back to the boat trips ..... One of which had the most visits by Eagles for a free lunch the Skipper had ever experienced himself.
So here follows a few White Tailed Eagle pictures from the numerous visits we had:

Just a few shots that I won't be using for sellable Prints in the future.
It was difficult to get Sea Horizon level - The damn boat was bouncing around so much lol

We did see many other species, but not all are easily approached or even close enough to bother, Hen Harriers, Buzzards, many other Otter sightings, Short Eared Owls, other W.T. Eagles, Golden Plover, oh, the list goes on.
What will probably never happen again is: We won't ever get one whole week of solid sunshine, wall to wall, sweating all day, once the morning chill dissipated. That I doubt very much!

Next year is Booked already - We hope to engage a Master Plan for acquiring Really good Corncrake Pictures, The more you go - The more you learn, & we now think we know why we struggle getting on these Rare, tiny little birds.

Many species seen, many species photographed, 4 happy chappies had probably the best weeks weather we will ever have on Mull & hopefully Corncrake & Otter pictures will be more successful next year.

Hope you enjoyed my little taster of Mull - It is a fantastic place to visit!
