Bempton Again!

As no body wanted to go to Bempton, just talk about maybe going, 2 of us had a trip out again on Sat.
It turned out to be a very windy, but Sunny day & did not disappoint!
Usual trek up to Jubilee corner & get the light behind us.
Lots of Guillemots around again some very obliging trying to rest up quietly away from the main nesting areas.
 Guillemot - giving it some!
 Having a quiet spell
Shouting at a Razorbill.

Plenty of Razorbills around.

What we all go for - The Gannets!

 Still some bonding going on!

& below 3 shots of a gigantic chick we spotted pushing it's way out for some air!

Squabbling birds
With all these birds packed in like sardines - there is going to be some fall outs!
 Just moaning in general!
 Too close fall outs!
Attempts to kill!

The one on the right appeared intent on killing the one on the left & later had it by the throat for a long time - We nicknamed it the Bempton Strangler. Check out all the others around - waiting for their turn to maul the victim.

Fight of the Day ..... Or Man of the match!

This was an amazing fight (if that's what you would call it) By a big bully on the left, trying to scare off a little chappie on the right. Basically the Gannet wanted the Razorbill to go away &, in No uncertain terms the Razorbill told it to "get stuffed" & stood it's ground. One Feisty little fella & it won in the end! Eventually getting right back into the corner under where the Gannets chin is!

There were people asking regularly where are the Puffins - I'm sure they all needed Glasses as when you look around they were there to be seen (well sometimes)

Here's one that nipped out of it's nest hole (on the right) & grabbed some new material before shooting back into the hole!

Bird of the day!
What I like about Bempton is every so often it throws a surprise in.
Allan & myself were trying to have some lunch at Staple Newk & a dark bird was circling around, we looked at it & Allan said "is that a Peregrine" It wasn't a clear view to me at the time - So, I'm not sure was my reply - followed by - Have you had your "Bins" on it yet?
Allan then remembered he had a pair on him & checked the bird & said Yes it is"! Well, Butty boxes were flying, my fruit went onto the floor & we stood up & snapped a few off!
After which I realized the Butty box lid had Vanished!! Probably blown out to sea!

I think the resulting snaps might have been worth all the trouble!

To finish off as the Sun had got clouded over we checked out Filey Dams again!
Nothing unusual around but the resident Little Grebes & Barn Owl gave us a showing!

So even though the grass had grown & blocked out many views over the cliffs it was a good day, Oh mustn't forget the strange boat we saw on the water.
Actually I have just found out that this was a little more than a strange boat!
It was Charlie! rowing around great Britain.

Shame you all missed out on yet another cracking day out!

  1. Another great day out Barry. Bempton is a great place to go, perhaps next time it won't be just as windy.
